Lake Mburo National Park protects a compact area of open grassland and scattered woodland in western Uganda, shaped by low hills and a network of lakes. Centred around Lake Mburo, the area supports species not commonly found elsewhere in the country, particularly grazing animals adapted to this drier environment. Its smaller scale and accessible terrain set it apart from Uganda’s larger protected areas. The open ground and water edges here create consistent opportunities to observe wildlife at close range. Herds of zebra, impala, and eland move between grazing areas, while buffalo and warthog are frequently seen across different sections. The presence of lakes draws animals into concentrated areas, creating steady viewing conditions shaped by water access and daily movement patterns within this relatively compact setting.
